Life is constantly in transition. This may be obvious in major aspects of life, such as relationships, career, finances, illness or deaths, or where we call home. Or the major transitions demonstrated in nature - sunrise and sunset, seasons, storms, growth and decay. Or in cultural, political, societal transitions. And if we are being honest, transition is presenting itself in small ways all the time - whether it's the transition from getting out of bed, from sitting to standing, going from home to work, or from breathing-in to breathing-out. How we move through our life transitions has a profound influence on what happens on the other side of the transition.
Transitions are rich, poignant times, where what was no longer is, and what will be is at least in part still to be determined. We can have an impact on what happens during the transition, as well as what comes to be.
Our mind and inner world is constantly influencing our external life and reality. Before we become aware of our mind's activity, it runs unconsciously in the background on default mode, based on conditioned ideas and beliefs. Without presence/awareness, we are almost always thinking, whether we know it or not. And these thoughts are, in effect, influencing our actions and how we feel in our life. This is how life gets manifested. Whether these default patterned thoughts are supportive or not is dependent on infinite factors, but for most people, there are many thoughts that are not supportive to a fulfilling life or to self-realization. We can effect our life by bringing thoughts that have been hidden to the foreground, and by being more deliberate about the thoughts we are contributing.
In this class, we will be looking at whatever type of transition we might be in (large or small, many or one), and being deliberate about how we hold that phase of the unknown. If we can clearly identify what our deepest heart's longings are, and if we can bring qualities of patience, faith, creativity, and wisdom to our process and heart, we can learn how to make the most of transitions and contribute to what manifests in our inner and outer worlds.
This is not a process of accumulation or getting whatever we want. It is actually a process of clarity and renunciation. This is coming from a place that views freedom in the heart and mind as paramount to a fulfilling life. If someone needs to manifest "things" in order to recognize "things" fallibility to produce genuine peace, then they can go through that phase.
This is also not meant to diminish the fact that fulfillment often includes the need for creative expression, deep connected relationships, and physical security. Self-realization or freedom can be incomplete and we can still be manifesting a meaningful life. There is a spectrum of needs. The point is to bring consciousness to the process.
This class will be relevant if you find yourself in a major transition, simply want to get closer to the smaller moments of transition, want a container for discerning your next phase, need support in getting clear about your heart's drive, or you recognize some underlying patterns getting in the way of moving forward confidently.
Throughout the course, we will engage our practices of presence/awareness, inquiry and intuitive guidance. Some experience with these practices will be helpful but are not critical.
